Letter to Parents (Spring Break)

Updated: Mar 26

March 24, 2025

Dear Parents,

Greetings!

As the blessed occasion of Eid approaches, the English Language Private School, Dubai, extends its warmest wishes to you and your family in advance. May this upcoming celebration bring joy, serenity, and abundant blessings to your home.

As we enter the final stretch of the academic year, we would like to bring to your attention a few key expectations and reminders to support your child’s academic progress and preparation for the upcoming assessments. With the Spring Break taking place from 24th March to 4th April 2025, we encourage students to use this time wisely by revising regularly and staying engaged with their learning, ensuring they return well-prepared and confident for the remainder of the term.

GL Assessments (Years 4–10)

  • Students in Years 4 to 10 will be participating in GL Progress Tests in English, Mathematics, and Science.

  • These international assessments contribute to students’ overall academic performance and are compulsory.

  • Students must bring a fully charged device on the day of the GL test.

End-of-Year Assessments and Revision

As the End-of-Year Assessment approaches in the first week of June, we strongly encourage all students to begin revising the key topics covered so far. Focused revision at this stage is critical in helping students reinforce their learning, build on newly acquired knowledge, identify areas for improvement, and perform confidently in their assessments.

Mock Exams for Year 10 to 13:

Mock exams will commence on April 7, 2025. Detailed schedules for Years 10, 11, 12, and 13 are available at the following link: Mock Exam Schedule

Daily Reading on myON Digital Platform

One of the most effective ways to enhance reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary is through regular reading. We kindly request that parents ensure their child dedicates at least 30 minutes each day to reading on the myON digital platform. This consistent habit is essential for improving performance in the upcoming NGRT (New Group Reading Test) and GL PTE (Progress Test in English) assessments. A strong reading foundation is not only important for English but also supports achievement across all subjects.

 Daily Independent Study on Century.tech

To support independent learning, critical thinking, and academic growth, all students are expected to spend at least 30 minutes daily on Century.tech. This platform offers personalised learning in English, Mathematics, and Science, adapting to each student’s needs. It delivers content through short, interactive lessons called ‘Nuggets’ and provides real-time feedback to help students track their progress. We kindly ask parents to monitor their child’s usage and encourage consistency. Regular use of Century.tech will also strengthen preparation for GL Assessments and End-of-Year Exams.

Support Classes for Board Exams (Year 10 to Year 13)

For students enrolled in board classes (Years 10, 11, 12, and 13), the school is conducting targeted support classes to assist with thorough preparation for the board examinations. These support lessons were initiated during the Mid Term Break in February 2025 and have continued since then due to their success and the overwhelming interest shown by both students and parents. We urge all parents to ensure their children attend these support sessions regularly, as they are designed to reinforce core concepts, address individual learning gaps, and enhance overall exam readiness.

PISA Preparation for Years 9 & 10

As part of our commitment to global academic benchmarking, students in Years 9 and 10 are preparing for the PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment), scheduled to take place in May 2025. These assessments focus on real-world problem-solving and critical thinking in reading, mathematics, and science.

To support this, the school has arranged specialised PISA preparation classes, with separate groups for boys and girls. It is imperative that students attend these sessions regularly to develop the necessary skills and become confident participants in this important international assessment.
